单词 passant
释义

passantadj.n.adv.

Brit. /ˈpas(ə)nt/, U.S. /ˈpæs(ə)nt/
Forms: Middle English pasaunt, Middle English passans (plural), Middle English passante, Middle English passaunt, Middle English passaunte, Middle English– passant, 1600s passent; also Scottish pre-1700 passand (rare).
Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French passant.
Etymology: < Anglo-Norman and Middle French, French passant (12th cent. in Old French, c1255 in heraldic use in Anglo-Norman; c1250 as noun), present participle of passer pass v.The heraldic compounds passant guardant , passant regardant , passant repassant (see sense A. 3) are apparently formations in English; no corresponding compounds are attested in French. Occasional Older Scots forms in -and are probably by association with passand , the usual Older Scots form of passing adj.
