Etymology: < German parosteal (R. Virchow Die krankhaften Geschwülste (1863) II. 91) < par- para- prefix¹ + ancient Greek ὀστέον bone (see osteo- comb. form) + German -al -al suffix¹. Compare earlier parostosis n., osteal adj.
