Any member of a group (now the family Paramyxoviridae) of enveloped, single-stranded RNA viruses which have a non-segmented genome and envelope glycoproteins which often have haemagglutin and neuraminidase activities, and which include pathogens of humans, other mammals, and birds.The family Paramyxoviridae consists of the genera Morbillivirus, Rubulavirus (mumps virus, Newcastle disease virus, etc.), Respirovirus (human and bovine parainfluenza viruses, Sendai virus, etc.), Pneumovirus (human and bovine respiratory syncytial viruses, etc.), Metapneumovirus (turkey rhinotracheitis virus), and Henipavirus (Hendra and Nipah viruses).
