1968 A. A. Baker Unsaturation in Org. Chem. iv. 40 Balard distilled amyl alcohol from concentrated zinc chloride solution, obtaining amylene, and as the distillation continued at higher temperatures, he obtained Cahours' compound (C₁₀H₂₀) and a higher member of the series (C₂₀H₄₀). Balard proposed the names amylene for C₅H₁₀, paramylene for C₁₀H₂₀, and metamylene for C₂₀H₄₀.
