Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin acatalecticus.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin acatalecticus, variant (frequently recorded in manuscripts; after catalecticus catalectic adj.) of acatalectus (from 4th cent. in grammarians) < Hellenistic Greek ἀκατάληκτος < ἀ- a- prefix6 + κατάληκτος (see catalectic adj. and n.). Compare Middle French, French acatalectique (1588 as adjective, 1644 as noun), Spanish acataléctico (1490 as adjective, 1630 as noun), Italian acatalettico (a1603).
