Origin: Either (i) a borrowing from Latin. Or (ii) a borrowing from Greek. Etymons: Latin paralogista; Greek παραλογιστής.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin paralogista false reasoner (a1180 in a British source) or its etymon Hellenistic Greek παραλογιστής a person who cheats by false reasoning (already in ancient Greek denoting a person who cheats by false reckoning) < ancient Greek παραλογίζεσθαι paralogize v. + -της , suffix forming agent nouns.
