Origin: A borrowing from Italian. Etymon: Italian palombino.
Etymology: < Italian palombino (apparently not recorded in Italian dictionaries, but implied by the French loans palumbino (1818), palumbin (1819)), use as noun (in specific sense) of palombino dove-coloured < palombo wood pigeon, pigeon, dove (15th cent.; < classical Latin palumbus , variant of palumbēs wood pigeon: see palumbine adj.) + -ino -ine suffix1. Compare classical Latin palumbīnus palumbine adj.
A greyish-white Italian marble.
