Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with English elements; modelled on a German lexical item. Etymons: Latin Acarus , -o- connective, -philous comb. form.
Etymology: < scientific Latin Acarus acarus n. + -o- connective + -philous comb. form, after German akarophil (A. Lundström 1887, in Nova Acta Regiae Societatis Upsaliensis Ser. III) and entomophilous adj. at entomo- comb. form .
Chiefly Botany.
That lives in or is adapted for a symbiotic relationship with mites; spec. (of a plant) pollinated by mites. Also: relating to or associated with such a relationship.
