Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French palmier.
Etymology: < French palmier (although this is first attested later: 1938), transferred use of palmier palm tree (see palmer n.3).

In French cookery: a biscuit made of sugared puff pastry, shaped like a palm leaf.
