Etymology: Either < parody n.2 + -ic suffix, or < post-classical Latin parodicus (1585) or its etymon Hellenistic Greek παρωδικός burlesque < ancient Greek παρῳδία parody n.2 + -ικός -ic suffix. Compare French parodique (1803). Compare earlier parodical adj.2, parodious adj., parodial adj.
