Brit. /ˈpɑːmᵻntə/, U.S. /ˈpɑrmən(t)ər/
Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymons: French parmenter, parmentier.
Etymology: < Anglo-Norman parmenter, parementer, parimenter and Middle French parmentier tailor (13th cent. in Old French) < parement parament n. + -ier -ier suffix; compare -er suffix2. Compare post-classical Latin parmentarius tailor, robe-trimmer, or furrier (12th cent. in continental sources, 1086, c1280 in British sources; also peramenator (1263), paramentor (1377)). Compare parnter n.It is unclear whether instances such as the following show the Middle English or the Anglo-Norman word:1208 in G. Otto Handwerkernamen in Mittelengl.
