Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French pannade.
Etymology: < French †pannade buck, caper (1611 in Cotgrave; 1460 in Middle French as penade ; > Middle French pennader to buck, caper, Middle French, French panader to strut (15th cent.)) < a use as noun of the past participle of Old Occitan penar to kick (c.1300; compare pennado caper (17th cent.)), perhaps ultimately < a derivative of classical Latin ped- , pēs foot (see -ped comb. form). Compare Italian pedinare to follow somebody's every step (a1562).Blount (see quot. 1656) copies Cotgrave literally:1611 R. Cotgrave Dict. French & Eng. Tongues Pannades, the curuettings, prauncings, or boundings of lustie horses.
Obsolete. rare.
