Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element. Etymons: Greek Πανελλήνιος , -an suffix.
Etymology: < Hellenistic Greek Πανελλήνιος of or relating to all the Greeks ( < ancient Greek παν- pan- comb. form + Ἑλλήνιος Hellenic: see Hellenian n. and adj.) + -an suffix. Compare French †Pan-Hellenian (1740 in the passage translated in quot. 1740), panhellénien (1832). Compare earlier Hellenian adj.With Panhellenian festival, Panhellenian games compare Hellenistic Greek ἀγὼν Πανελλήνιος.
Now rare.
Relating to or extending over the whole of Greece.
