Origin: A borrowing from German, combined with an English element. Etymons: German paradrom , -ic suffix.
Etymology: < German paradrom (J. B. Listing 1847, in Göttinger Studien (Math. u. Naturwissensch. Abhandl.) 1 851; < Hellenistic Greek παράδρομος running alongside < ancient Greek παρα- para- prefix1 + δρόμος course (see -drome comb. form); compare ancient Greek παράδρομα spaces for getting through gaps) + -ic suffix. Compare monodromic adj.
Mathematics. rare.
Running in parallel courses; (of screw threads, etc.) winding helically in courses that run side by side.
