Origin: Probably a borrowing from French. Etymon: French parade.
Etymology: Probably < French parade parade n.1, with remodelling of the ending after -ado suffix. Compare later parade n.1With the β. forms compare Occitan parada , Catalan parada , Spanish parada (see parade n.1). Sense 1 appears to be a purely English development, and is apparently not attested for French parade or for the corresponding word in other Romance languages until much later.
Obsolete.
1. A parade ground; a public square; = parade n.1 1b, 4.In quots. a1652, 1690 applied to the Prado in Madrid.
