Origin: A borrowing from German. Etymon: German Pallasit.
Etymology: < German Pallasit (G. Rose 1863, in Ann. der Physik u. Chemie 118 421) < the name of Peter Simon Pallas (see Pallas n.), who discovered such a meteorite in 1772 + -it -ite suffix1.
Geology.
Any of a class of stony-iron meteorites composed largely of olivine crystals enclosed in a network of nickel-iron.
