Etymology: < the name of Peter Simon Pallas (1741–1811), German naturalist, best known for his studies of the fauna of the Russian empire.Pallas's warbler was described (in the genus Motacilla) in Zoographia Rosso-Asiatica (1811) I. 499 (M. proregulus) and 509 (M. certhiola). Pallas's cat was described by Pallas in Reise durch verschiedene Provinzen des Russischen Reichs in einem Ausführlichen Auszuge III.
