Origin: A borrowing from Italian. Etymons: Italian palesat-, palesare.
Etymology: < Italian palesat-, past participial stem (compare -ate suffix3) of palesare to manifest, reveal (end of the 13th cent.) < palese public, in open view (late 12th cent. or earlier) < an unattested post-classical Latin derivative of classical Latin palam openly, publicly (of uncertain origin; with the ending compare clam secretly, in private (see clandestine adj.), coram in the sight or presence of). Compare post-classical Latin palezare (in an undated Italian source in Du Cange), Middle French, French †paliser (1596).
Obsolete. rare.
