Etymology: < Spanish pandereta (1758 or earlier; c1330 as panderete ) < pandero pandero n. + -eta , diminutive suffix (compare -et suffix1).
Any of various tambourines of Spain, Latin America, or the Spanish-speaking Caribbean, used esp. in folk dances.
