Etymology: < para- prefix1 + heliotropism n., probably after paraheliotropic adj. (see quot. 1881 and quot. 1880 at paraheliotropic adj.).
Botany.
A type of tropism in which a plant's leaves move to reduce injuriously intense illumination, usually by keeping their blades parallel to the light rays.
