Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin paragogica, paragogicus.
Etymology: As noun < post-classical Latin paragogica letter added to a word (1580 in the passage translated in quot. 1593 at sense A.), use as noun (short for littera paragogica ) of feminine singular of paragogicus < paragoge (see paragoge n.) + -icus -ic suffix. As adjective < post-classical Latin paragogicus; compare earlier paragogical adj. Compare medieval Greek παραγωγικός (adjective) and French paragogique (of a letter) added to the end of a word (1721).
