Etymology: < classical Latin papȳrus papyrus n. + -ian suffix. With the form papyrean compare -ean suffix. Compare post-classical Latin papyrius (4th cent. as papirius), papireus (4th cent.) of papyrus. N.E.D. (1904) gives the pronunciation as (păpi·riăn) /pəˈpɪrɪən/.
Obsolete. rare.
Made of papyrus.
