Origin: A borrowing from Malay. Etymon: Malay palang.
Etymology: < Malay palang crossbar, cross-piece.
In Borneo and (formerly) the Philippines: a (usually metal) crosspiece driven horizontally through the penis near its head; the practice of piercing the penis in this way (see quot. 1997). Cf. ampallang n.
