单词 pan-slavism
释义

pan-Slavismn.

Brit. /ˌpanˈslɑːvɪz(ə)m/, U.S. /ˌpænˈslɑˌvɪzəm/
Forms: 1800s pan-Sclavism, 1800s pan-Slavisme, 1800s– pan-Slavism. Also with capital initial.
Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: pan- comb. form, Slav n., -ism suffix.
Etymology: < pan- comb. form + Slav n. + -ism suffix. Compare post-classical Latin panslavismus (1826), French panslavisme (1845), German Panslawismus (1841), Panslavismus, †Pansclavismus, Czech panslavismus, panslavistika, všeslovanstvo (c1846).The movement arose in the first half of 19th cent. among Slavs living in Austria and Hungary (especially the leaders of the Czech and Slovak national awakening), and was at first based on the idea of linguistic and literary union. The word panslavismus arose in the Slovak–Czech–German contact area, but was first used in a work published in Latin by a Slovak living in Hungary:1826 J. Herkel Elementa Universalis Linguae Slavicae 4 Unio in literatura inter omnes Slaves sive verus panslavismus. In Russia pan-Slavism developed later and was exploited for political purposes. From the 1840s onwards, and particularly after the first Slavic Congress in Prague (1848), the word was increasingly used in a derogatory way by non-Slavs, who saw the concept as a veiled form of Russian expansionism. For probable isolated unassimilated borrowing of the German word compare:1846 B. Jowett in Life & Lett. (1897) I. v. 157 My balance of power would be..France and England against Pansclavismus and despotism.
The idea of, or movement for, the political union of all Slavs or Slavonic-speaking peoples; pan-Slavic solidarity, feeling, belief, etc. Cf. Slavophilism n..
