Origin: A borrowing from Hindi. Etymon: Hindi pakhāl.
Etymology: < Hindi pakhāl large water-skin < Sanskrit payas water + Prakrit khallaga leaf cup, (leather) bag, khallā water-skin (perhaps < Dravidian: compare Tamil kallai leaf cup, kallam (earthen) vessel). Compare pakhali n.
South Asian.
A container for carrying or keeping water, esp. while travelling; spec. a leather water-skin.
