Origin: Either (i) a borrowing from Latin. Or (ii) a borrowing from Greek. Etymons: Latin panspermia; Greek πανσπερμία.
Etymology: < (i) post-classical Latin panspermia or its etymon (ii) ancient Greek πανσπερμία panspermia n.; compare -y suffix3. Compare French panspermie (1842 in this sense; 1823 in sense ‘mixed-up heap of heterogeneous substances’).
Now chiefly historical.
