Origin: From a proper name. Etymon: proper name Pacolet.
Etymology: < Pacolet, the name of a dwarf in the medieval French romance of Valentine and Orson, said to have made a magical winged horse of wood by which he could instantly transport himself to wherever he wished. Compare French cheval de Pacolet (1584 or earlier).A reference to Pacolet's horse also appears in Rabelais (1542).
Obsolete.
In allusive and similative use. A mythical horse able to transport a person swiftly to wherever he or she wishes. More fully Pacolet's horse.
