1. English Law.
a. In full commission of oyer and terminer, writ of oyer and terminer. A commission authorizing a judge on circuit to hold courts (formerly only for the hearing of certain specified offences, such as treasons, felonies, etc.).Effectively abolished by the Courts Act 1971 (see quot. 1994 at sense 1b).
