Origin: Formed within English, by derivation; modelled on a French lexical item. Etymons: oxygen n., -ated suffix.
Etymology: < oxygen n. + -ated suffix, after French oxygéné (1787 in the passage translated in quot. 1788 at sense 1). Compare slightly later oxygenate v.
