The Portuguese right of authority over the Roman Catholic Church in India, established by Papal Bull in 1514 and claimed by some (esp. over the Portuguese colony of Goa) until the early 20th cent.Portugal competed with the Propaganda (propaganda n. 1) for the right to appoint bishops and missionaries in India.
