A movement for the revival of Catholic doctrine and observance in the Church of England, which began at Oxford University in 1833 with the publication of the first of John Henry Newman's ‘Tracts for the Times’ (see tract n.1 3b) and had a lasting influence on many aspects of subsequent Anglican church practice.
