Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin Ovidiānus.
Etymology: < classical Latin Ovidiānus of Ovid < Ovidius , the name of Ovid, Latin poet (Publius Ovidius Naso, b.c. 43– a.d. 17) + -ānus -an suffix. N.E.D. (1904) gives only the pronunciation (ovi·diăn) /əʊˈvɪdɪən/.
