Etymology: < scientific Latin ovali-, combining form (in e.g. ovalifolia , ovalifolius , ovalifolium (1804, 1830, 1808 respectively as specific epithets)) of post-classical Latin ovalis oval adj.²Attested in a small number of formations, earliest in botany in ovali-globose adj. , ovali-lanceolate adj. , which have parallels at oval adj.² and n.¹ Compounds 2. Subsequently in more general scientific use (see ovaliform adj.). Combines with second elements of Latin origin.
