Etymology: < out- prefix + fight v.The word apparently became obsolete during the Old English period, was re-formed in the late 14th cent. (probably after classical Latin expugnāre expugn v.), and then re-formed again in the 17th cent.
1. intransitive. To fight one's way out. Obsolete. rare.
