Rowing.
In a bumping race (chiefly at Oxford and Cambridge Universities): a bump (bump n.2 6a) of a boat several places in front, rather than of the boat immediately ahead at the start of the race.This is possible when the boat which is immediately in front at the start of the race bumps the boat ahead of it, causing either the boat making the bump, or both boats involved, to drop out of the race.
