1969 Gloss. Terms Dentistry (B.S.I.) 36 Ostectomy, the division of a bone at two points with removal of the intervening portion of bone. This procedure is, in effect, similar to a resection..but the term ‘ostectomy’ is reserved for operations designed to correct some structural deformity of a congenital, developmental, or acquired nature whereas ‘resection’ applies to the removal of diseased bone.
