Etymology: < Middle French, French originaire, adjective (1365) and noun (1576 in the passage translated in quot. 1594 at sense B.) and its etymon post-classical Latin originarius that originates from a particular place, native, existing from the beginning, innate, also a native (4th cent.) < classical Latin orīgin- , orīgō origin n. + -ārius -ary suffix1. Compare Italian originario, adjective (a1580) and noun (1618), Spanish originario, adjective (1571) and noun (1600), Catalan originari (1462).
