1875 J. B. Lightfoot St. Paul's Epist. Colossians (1879) 349 With Epiphanius the Essenes are a Samaritan, the Ossaeans a Judaic sect. He has evidently got his information from two distinct sources, and does not see that the same persons are intended.

1988 Jrnl. Theol. Stud. 39 511 The Ossaeans and Nasaraeans are peculiar to Epiphanius, unles [sic] the Ossaeans are to be identified with the Essenes of other lists.

1999 A. McGowan Ascetic Eucharists 170 Epiphanius does state that the Elkesaite ‘Osseans’ rejected sacrifice.
