Origin: Of unknown origin.
Etymology: Origin unknown.It has been suggested that the word is perhaps to be derived from a French place name (compare quot. 1993), but no suitable candidate has been proposed.
Now rare.
An early-ripening variety of apple having a yellow skin and flesh, reputed to have been cultivated originally in Scotland. Also Oslin pippin.
