Origin: Apparently a borrowing from French, combined with an English element. Etymons: French orgue , serinette n.
Etymology: Apparently < French orgue organ (see orgue n.) + -inette (in serinette n.).
Now historical.
A mechanical musical instrument, consisting of a set of reeds and a bellows, the wind from which is admitted to the reeds through holes in a strip of paper which is moved along by turning a crank.
