Origin: A borrowing from Greek. Etymon: Greek ὀργιασμός.
Etymology: < Hellenistic Greek ὀργιασμός < ancient Greek ὀργιάζειν to celebrate orgies ( < ὄργια orgies: see orgy n.) + -μος , suffix forming nouns. Compare French orgiasme (1838), German Orgiasmus (1889 in the passage translated in quot. 1896).
A state of excited or exalted feeling, like that of a worshipper at an orgy; behaviour or practices associated with orgies.
