Also in extended use.Popularized by Woody Allen’s 1973 science fiction comedy film Sleeper (see quot. 1973), which depicted a device of this name; the fictional device was probably inspired by the orgone accumulator, an apparatus invented by psychoanalyst Wilhelm Reich (see orgone n.).
