单词 otiosity
释义

otiosityn.

Brit. /ˌəʊtɪˈɒsᵻti/, /ˌəʊʃɪˈɒsᵻti/, U.S. /ˌoʊdiˈɑsədi/, /ˌoʊʃiˈɑsədi/
Forms: late Middle English ociosyte, 1500s ociosite, 1500s ociositee, 1500s ocyosyte, 1800s– otiosity; also Scottish pre-1700 ociosite, pre-1700 ociositie, pre-1700 ocyosyte.
Origin: Perhaps of multiple origins. Partly a borrowing from French. Perhaps also partly a borrowing from Latin. Etymons: French ociosité; Latin otiositas.
Etymology: In early use < Anglo-Norman ociosité superfluity and Middle French ociosité idleness, laziness (1406 as occiosité ) < post-classical Latin otiositas idleness, laziness (Vetus Latina) < classical Latin ōtiōsus otiose adj. + -tās (see -ty suffix1; compare -ity suffix). In later use re-formed after or perhaps independently < post-classical Latin otiositas (compare -osity suffix); compare also otiose adj. Compare Italian oziosita (1304–8), Spanish ociosidad (1438).
