Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin ōscitāt-, ōscitāre, ōscitārī.
Etymology: < classical Latin ōscitāt-, past participial stem (compare -ate suffix3) of ōscitāre to open (as a mouth), also ōscitārī to gape, yawn < ōs mouth (see oral adj.) + citāre to move, actuate (see cite v.).
