A small thorny tree, Maclura pomifera (family Moraceae), native to Arkansas and northern Texas, which bears inedible green orange-like fruit, yields durable orange-coloured wood formerly used for bows and other weapons, and has been much used for hedging in the United States. Also: the fruit or wood of this tree. Cf. Maclura n.
