Origin: From a proper name. Etymon: proper name Orford.

Etymology: < the name of the Orford Copper Company (earlier the Orford Copper and Nickel Company), at whose refinery in New Jersey the process was developed. The company took its name from Orford, a town in Quebec, Canada, the site of a nickel mine owned by the company.
