Origin: A borrowing from Italian. Etymons: Italian orecchiette, orecchietta.
Etymology: < Italian orecchiette, specific use of plural of orecchietta little ear (18th cent., also in spec. use of the auricles of the heart) < orecchia ear (see orecchion n.) + -etta (see -et suffix1).
A variety of pasta formed into small ear-shaped pieces.
