单词 orthose
释义

orthosen.

Brit. /ˈɔːθəʊs/, /ˈɔːθəʊz/, U.S. /ˈɔrθoʊs/, /ˈɔrθoʊz/
Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French orthose.
Etymology: < French orthose (R. J. Haüy Traité de minéral. (1801) II. 609: see note) < ancient Greek ὀρθός right, straight (see ortho- comb. form); the ending is apparently arbitrary.Haüy coined this name to replace French feldspath (1780 in Saussure; < German †Feldspath (now Feldspat ): see feldspar n.) which he considered inappropriate; it alludes to the fact that the mineral shows two characteristic cleavages at right angles. Haüy's name was itself superseded by orthoclase n.
Mineralogy. Now rare.
A mineral which is the common form of potash feldspar; = orthoclase n.
