单词 ordinative
释义

ordinativeadj.n.

Forms: 1600s ordinatiue, 1600s 1800s ordinative.
Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin ordinativus.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin ordinativus indicating order (late 2nd or early 3rd cent. in Tertullian), also as a technical term in the grammarians (4th cent.), ordering (14th cent. in British sources, perhaps an independent formation) < classical Latin ōrdināt- , past participial stem of ōrdināre ordain v. + -īvus -ive suffix. Compare Middle French ordinatif having to do with organization (1374),which gives order (1551), French ordinatif relating to ordination (1661, obsolete), ordaining (1826 in an isolated attestation, of papal power). N.E.D. (1903) gives the pronunciation as (ǭ·ɹdinĕtiv) /ˈɔːdɪnətɪv/.
