Origin: Either (i) a borrowing from French. Or (ii) a borrowing from Latin. Etymons: French ordinand; Latin ordinandus, ōrdināre.
Etymology: < French ordinand candidate for ordination (1642), or its etymon post-classical Latin ordinandus (from late 12th cent. in British sources), use as noun of classical Latin ōrdinandus, gerundive of ōrdināre ordain v.; compare -and suffix2.
